How it works
One request. One independent local contractor. No runaround.
Des Moines Fence Pros is a referral service. We write the guides, you tell us about the fence, and an independent Des Moines-area fence contractor that does that kind of work contacts you to quote it. Here is exactly what happens, what we do, and what we don't.
The five steps
- 1. You read the page that fits What a fence costs here, what the City lets you build, how to check a contractor's Iowa registration — answered before anyone contacts you, with sources and dates.
- 2. You describe the job Roughly how many feet, new line or replacement, the material you're leaning toward, gates, what's along the line, your neighborhood, and timing.
- 3. We pass it to one independent contractor An independent Des Moines-area fence contractor that does that kind of work in your part of the metro receives your request.
- 4. The contractor contacts you directly They ask their own questions, come measure the line, and quote it in writing. The quote, the contract, the permit and the work are between you and them.
- 5. You decide No obligation to hire anyone, and you are free to get other quotes — we tell you to.
What we do
- Match by area and job type Requests are routed by community (Des Moines, West Des Moines, Ankeny, Urbandale, Johnston, Clive, Waukee, Altoona, Pleasant Hill, Grimes, Norwalk) and by the kind of work — new fence, replacement, repair, gates.
- Publish dated cost ranges Every dollar figure on the site comes from one dated source list, so the numbers agree from page to page and say where they came from.
- Cite the actual rules Permit, height and registration statements quote the City of Des Moines fence FAQ, the suburb's own handout, the Polk County form, or the Iowa Code, with the date we read it.
What we don't do
- Build fences We don't install, repair or remove fences. We don't employ crews. We are not a fence contractor.
- Quote jobs Only the contractor who measures the line can price it. Our ranges are for judging their number, not replacing it.
- Guarantee a contractor We don't verify contractors' registration or insurance for you, and we say so. The verification walkthrough shows how to do it yourself in five minutes.
Why the guides come first
A fence quote is hard to judge without three things most sales pages leave out, so the cost guide, the permit and height rules, the registration check and the neighbor fence law exist to answer the questions before the quote, from primary sources, with dates. A homeowner who has read them gets a better quote from any contractor, including the one we send. Our about page describes how the information is sourced.
Who the contractors are
Independent, locally operated fence businesses — some full-service, some that specialize in one material, some that mostly do repairs. They work under their own name, registration, insurance and pricing. Before you hire anyone, ours or not: look up the Iowa registration, get the certificate of insurance, confirm it with the agent, and get the scope in writing. The company list shows what eight real Des Moines-area firms say they do.
Matching questions
What does it cost me to be matched?
Nothing. There is no fee to you at any point, and no obligation to hire the contractor you are matched with.
How does Des Moines Fence Pros make money?
The independent contractors we refer homeowners to pay for the referrals or for a place in the matching rotation. That is the whole business. It does not change what you pay them, and it is why every page tells you to get other quotes and to check registration and insurance before hiring anyone — including anyone we send.
Will I be contacted by several companies?
No. Once matching opens, one request will go to one contractor; if that contractor cannot take the job, the request goes to the next one and you are told.
Where is the request form and phone number?
Not open yet. The site launched with its guides first; the request form and a local phone line open after launch, and the contact page says what to have ready. Until then, the pages here are built to get you to the right answer and the right kind of contractor on your own.
Is the contractor you match me with licensed?
Iowa issues no fence-contractor licence — what the state has is contractor registration, required of anyone earning $2,000 or more a year from construction — so the honest answer is: look up the registration and ask for the insurance certificate. The verification page shows exactly where to look and what a good result looks like.
